The end of motivation, the unravelling of the will, and the necessary fallback mechanism
The end of motivation, the unravelling of the will, and the necessary fallback mechanism

Hard threshold session, not feeling it after the warmup. Few strides… Still not feeling it. This one is gonna suck. I have to do 9x2:30. Forget 9. I don’t think I can do 1.
I woke up and knew I didn’t have it. I knew it the last night. The session was going to be very challenging anyway even on a strong day.
The will gets tired just like the body does. We train the will so that we have more will and we have will more often just like we train the body to get stronger and be strong more often.

Both the body and the will will take a hit. It’s immediate. It doesn’t take much to destabilize these. Whatever else we use doesn’t have to be very strong. it just has to be reliable. It has to be there, all the time, no matter what to compensate for the fickle will and the brittle body.
One of these on the mechanism is habit. I usually don’t feel like running. But all I have to do is just take my mind of of it for a
I committed to spending the year training for this. So I know I’m gonna have a lot of willpower on race day. But the will is just not as sharp everyday.
