Fitness, and well-disguised blessings, and learning the right way

Did my longest bike ride yesterday. 122km in race pace with only 2x5min water breaks. that’s about as fast as I can go for 4h30
Since it was a long week, I ran only 18km today.
2 hours after that, it’s like I haven’t worked out in days. I feel fully recovered.
I remember the first few months of training and how crushed I would feel for the rest of the day. Today, I understand that I was training wrong. I just did two consecutive days with savage sessions and I have an acceptable level of fatigue. Perhaps that’s how one should feel most of the time.
Having that hamstring tear was probably the best thing that happened. I now see with perfect clarity that I was heading directly into very nasty place. A hamstring tear is bad but there’s plenty of worse outcomes that were equally possible. Shoulder injuries, achilles, knees… Thank god I didn’t get that. The worst was probably chronic fatigue which is where I was headed. Once you’re there, the equation becomes completely different.
With the benefit of hindsight, it was indeed a blessing in disguise.
